Picture intended as an illustration of a black man and used as jacket illustration for a biography on Abram Petrovich Gannibal (1696-1781) written by Hugh Barnes (2005). Gannibal was a former slave of the Ottoman Sulltan at Constantinople, secretary of Peter the Great, military engineer, later major general and governor of Reval (now: Tallinn) and finally general-en-chef, supervising the building of seaforts and canals in Russia in the 1700s. The picture is called 'Nègre au turban' ['Black with turban']. It is a drawing and can be seen in the Musée National in Paris. As Gannibal died 17 years before the birth of the artist, this picture does not portray Gannibal.
