The image Pupila Augusta shows a reclining woman wearing a winged, snail-shaped helmet. She gazes into a bowl of water which she stirs with one finger. She is accompanied by three winged putti. Two of them are in a canistrum, (a wicker basket used in classical rites), decorated with a bucranium, (an ox skull with garlands). The name Pupila Augusta (exalted ward) is said to refer to Venus, and the figure is either looking at her reflection or scrying. It was used as a model for Albrecht Dürer's 1498 Pupila Augusta drawing. / アルブレヒト・デューラー
